News: AfterEarth Seek New Members

AfterEarth - In the Shadow of Destiny

One of Calgary’s best and hardest working death metal bands seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth awhile back, but finally they have made a statement as to why. From the AfterEarth Facebook page:

Hello Everyone!
Garrett here,
I figure its time to bring everyone up to speed!
AfterEarth is not dead as one might have assumed do to inactivity as of late. Jesse and Andrew decided to leave AfterEarth for reasons of their own. There is no bad blood, and we are all still friends, but people grow and seek in life. With that leaves quite a large void in the band, to which Dustin and myself have been deliberating on a course of action for quite a few months now.
We’ve decided to continue on, and we need your help!
We’re looking couple of dedicated musicians that share our vision to join up and continue on with us. Bass and Guitar/lead positions specifically.
Looking for people that have :
-stage experience
-gear and the ability to transport themselves and said gear.
-Love for Death Metal.
Currently we are working on new material, and would invite potential candidates get involved in the writing process if he/she desired.
We also have studio time booked in July to record a new single & 3 song ep.
Thanks so much!
-Garrett
-AfterEarth

I don’t know about you, but I know I am excited. I’ve seen AfterEarth a handful of times, and every time was spectacular. I was introduced to the band back at Farmageddon 2014, when they played in full sunlight. They then did a couple shows in Edmonton, including Black Mourning Light 2015, finally going off the radar last year.

News: Goatwhore to Release Vengeful Ascension June 23 via Metal Blade; Tour North America with Anciients

Goatwhore - Vengeful Ascension

Goatwhore will release their anticipated Vengeful Ascension full-length worldwide on June 23rd via Metal Blade Records. The band’s seventh full-length and second recorded reel-to-reel, Vengeful Ascension was captured at Earth Analog in Tolono, Illinois near Champaign with longtime soundman and comrade Jarrett Pritchard (1349, Gruesome).

The ten-track, forty-one-minute production – mixed by Chris Common (Tribulation, Pelican) and mastered by Maor Applebaum (Faith No More, Halford, Today is the Day) – marches in, clutches its listeners by the throat and refuses to loosen its grip until the abrupt conclusion of “Those Who Denied God’s Will.” A sonic manifestation of war, chaos, desolation, and emotional conflict, seamlessly bridging twenty years of the band’s signature brand of audio venom, it’s a record that finds its members at their most accomplished both individually and as a cohesive unit. Guitarist Sammy Duet’s dense, sub nuclear riff work and possessed solo blitzes are at their most devastating spiraling flawlessly and instinctually around drummer Zack Simmons’ and bassist James Harvey’s hammering rhythms while vocalist Ben Falgoust’s distinctly commanding roar, his acidic prose more enunciated than ever before, complimenting the apocalyptic proceedings.

Vengeful Ascension will be available on CD, vinyl (in multiple limited color variations), and digital formats. Various Vengeful Ascension preorder options are currently available at through Metal Blade, where you can also sample the record’s title track.

Before the album is released, however, Goatwhore will wrap up their current tour with Amon Amarth and will begin a whole new tour with Canada’s own Anciients. As an added bonus for fans of both bands, the North American tour will actually tour through North America. Goatwhore will crush the Fort Worth Metal Fest at the The Rail Club in Fort Worth, Texas at the end of the month before taking to the streets again for a near-three-week North American journey from June 9th through July 1st.

News: Gloomed Debut Initial Offering Demo

Posted on

Gloomed - Initial Offering

From San Diego, California comes Gloomed, the new three-piece that features Wayne Sarantopoulos (ex-Ghoulgotha, Father Befouled, Encoffination, Decrepitaph, a million more…). Gloomed is not the death metal mastery you may somewhat expect, but rather a traditional doom band in the vein of Pentagram, Saint Vitus, and Black Sabbath. And they are amazing, as evidenced on their first demo, cleverly titled Initial Offering.

From Wayne, via Facebook:

I’d like to formally announce the release of the first demo by my new main band, Gloomed. […] It’s three songs in about 33 minutes. Recorded on March 5th, 2017 at Trench Studios and mixed by Patrick Bruss.

This is some Traditional Doom that I’ve wanted to play for a long time and I finally found the chance to do it. It’s traditional in some ways and a bit strange in some other ways. This is also the first time I’ve gotten to do something with all clean vocals (I’m not singing) and somewhat of a more standard guitar tuning.

[…]

Also, we’re looking for a drummer in the San Diego area. I played drums AND guitar on this demo, but I’m looking to go back to just playing guitar and having the ability to play shows. If you know someone interested, pass along this link to them.

One more thing: Since I know it will be asked, Ghoulgotha is no more. Our drummer Charlie Koryn moved away last summer, and he was just as much a part of the sound of the band as my oddball riffing style, so I decided to end it on a high note rather than try to find another drummer that wouldn’t sound the same and change the whole dynamic of the band. Ghoulgotha wasn’t a band you could do long distance or without 100% commitment, so I decided to move on.

[…]

Needless to say, I’m pretty hooked on this band. Demo of the year contender? I’d say so. Have a listen and tell me your thoughts on it.
